Every Fall the Shigatse monastery puts on a festival that floods the streets when it lets out each afternoon.

The mountain actually seemed more massive the farther you got from it. Everest base camp (5200 m, 17,000 ft) is a cluster of tents that are taken down for the winter in mid-October.
